Chapter 5

Caled yearned to commit violence. He stood in the darkness of his room, listening to the sound of his breathing, and he was furious with how fast and how hard it burst from his lungs. His skin was damp, causing his tunic to stick to his shoulders. Every pulse of his heart brought his attention to his cock straining angrily against the inside of his breeches. He wanted to fist himself urgently and violently and let out a great yell when he found his release.

But the ache was deeper than physical. He heard the light, perfunctory knock, and then the door opening and closing. The new heat in the room was secondary to the tension he felt from the man standing behind him.

“I didn’t mean for you to see that,” Lyelin said softly. “I hope you’re not upset with me for taking such liberties.”

“Upset?” Caled grinned bitterly into the darkness. “What reason do I have to be upset? You take your pleasures from unconscious men. I’ve seen worse.”

“But I did it with Hadrian.” Lyelin paused. “I’m aware of your feelings for him—”

“What feelings?” Caled’s voice echoed loudly in the room. He shifted and felt his cock move — still hard — and cursed his body’s unreasonable reaction. “I want him dead, Lyelin. If you want to rape him in his sleep, be my guest. I’ll hold him down for you if that’s your desire.” He shuddered lightly at the words, though. For all the unsavory work he’d done as a mercenary, rape was not one of them. “What happens to Hadrian means nothing to me. He is nothing but a walking corpse. Do what you like to him. You have my blessing.”

He heard Lyelin draw closer and Caled’s spine stiffened. In the mood he was currently in, the younger man was stepping into dangerous territory.

“I’m relieved to hear you say that,” Lyelin told him. By the volume of his voice he must be directly behind Caled. Within arm’s reach should the mercenary choose to grab him. Or hit him. “I thought for certain that when you saw me touching his naked body, when you watched him spill his seed by my hand — that you would be jealous.”

Caled closed his eyes, telling himself he would not rise to the bait.

“I thought it would remind you of when you used to touch him,” Lyelin went on, his voice hushed but reckless, much like his manner towards Caled since the beginning. “He felt so eager beneath my hands… he must have been even moreso when you took him his first time. I’ve never had a virgin, but the thought intrigues all men, doesn’t it? To be the first to sully such purity. To be the first to put that look of shock and awareness in his eyes. To know that for the rest of his life he will remember that you were the first to penetrate him with hard male flesh.”

Caled shuddered, willing away memories that squeezed his chest in a giant’s grip.
